December 2015 IT Marketing Action Items

Posted on Dec 14, 2015 · No Comments

Here are our 4 marketing recommendations for December 2015:

1. Alert your contacts about IE support ending in January.

In mid-January 2016, Microsoft stops providing support for Internet Explorer version 10 and earlier. This means that any of your clients and other contacts who are still using the older versions of IE will be susceptible to security holes because Microsoft will no longer provide patches. Our article on this end of support issue covers what your contacts need to know and what they should do (including a call-to-action to reach out to you).

2. Tell people how to dispose of old computers properly - and set up new ones.

Many companies use the end of the year to clean up, including getting rid of old computers. If they are not careful with how the data on hard disks is handled, they could end up with a serious problem. Warn them about the risks and offer to help dispose of their equipment properly.

Some companies may have extra profits that they are trying to reduce for tax purposes. Remind them that acquiring new equipment now could potentially be used for a 2015 tax deduction (they should check with an accountant for any tax-related details). If they do purchase new equipment, show them what they must do because pre-installed software that comes with new machines is often out of date by the time you open the box.

NOTE: you should call up anyone who clicks on these articles. Offer help when you call by saying something like this:

"Hi <name>, we're seeing many of our clients dispose of old computer equipment as we hit the end of the year, but not everyone is aware of how to dispose of it properly to avoid data security issues and even government fines. We're offering a free assessment to help companies make sure they don't accidentally create an issue for themselves. Have you looked at what you need to do to make sure the data on your old equipment doesn't get stolen?"

3. Talk about cybersecurity issues like insider threats, job sites and passwords.

Cybersecurity is one of the top concerns your contacts will have regarding IT. Keep them informed about the sneaky ways that criminals infest their computers and try to steal valuable company information. Talk about insider threats to security and share insights about passwords.
